S.A.F.E. (Save Animals From Euthanasia) is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization which rescues dogs and cats scheduled for euthanasia at Maricopa County pounds. This county, which includes the metropolitan Phoenix area, has one of the highest dog and cat euthanasia rates in the United States. The organization has plans to build a permanent, indoor-outdoor, air-conditioned kennel and an isolation area for dogs being treated for communicable, life-threatening diseases such as distemper and parvo virus. One hundred percent of all funds, merchandise and services donated to S.A.F.E. are used directly to benefit the rescued animals. S.A.F.E. is a sub-foundation operated under the umbrella of the National Heritage Foundation. As such, it shares the National Heritage Foundation's tax exempt number and resources.
