* EDUCATE our friends, family, and their friends and family in all aspects of responsible companion animal ownership.
HISTORY
Although the exact date of the Sapphire Feline Foster Care Home’s creation is unknown, its approximate creation was the winter of 2000. We began by rescuing felines on the kill list that we being delivered to a local veterinarian’s office for euthanizing. The rest is a blink of an eye and a hope in our hearts. In 2004 while finally deciding to go full force in the non-profit world of rescue, we changed our name to Sapphire Cats, because everyone remembered the word Sapphire but not the long name we had before.
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
We are a tax-exempt 501(c) 3 rescue group. We are very small with a network of foster homes. We are a private no-kill cat rescue organization dedicated to finding committed permanent homes for homeless, abused and unwanted cats. We also provide animal adoption services for pet owners who can no longer provide quality care due to unforeseen circumstances and must give up their animals either temporarily or permanently. Our target population groups are domestic violence situations and the elderly. We carry out our mission through caring for these cats in foster homes until they can be placed in permanent loving homes and educating the public about responsible pet care. We have a no-kill, no-cage philosophy (except for quarantine). Our potential adopters are required to complete a pre-adoption questionnaire and screening, sign animal adoption contract agreement forms, and a home safety check. We pride ourselves on placing cats in permanent homes based upon thoughtful consideration of the cats needs being met first. We therefore have less than a 10% overall return rate.
