A-PAL Humane Society has the primary goal of preventing suffering of Amador County animals through the prevention of overpopulation. In 2009- 1195 cats and kittens were spay/neutered and 252 dogs were spay/neutered. Left unaltered these cats, (646 females-3 to 5 heats of 3-6 kittens each) would conservatively have produced 10,000 kittens within one year. The dogs left unaltered woud have produced approximately 1000 puppies, (162 females, 6-14 puppies each). The "Save the Kittens" program adopted 599 cats and kittens through the Feed Barn in 2009. We love pit bull dogs, but too often they end up at our shelter and 88 were spay/neutered free of charge last year.
