For nearly forty years, the South Suburban Humane Society has helped tens of thousands of animals. From its roots as a small group of volunteers to today’s organization comprising volunteers and paid employees, the organization was responsible for nearly 6,000 animals in 2009. In addition to animal sheltering and adoptions, our extensive outreach programs include humane education, abuse investigations, and community outreach events. We also operate two resale shops located in Steger, Illinois and Chicago Heights, Illinois that promote our organization, our animals and provide income to support our humane work.
