Did you know that the Natchez Humane Society is the only animal shelter in the region? The current facility is in a complete state of disrepair and yet it must sustain thousands of dogs and cats until they are adopted or euthanized. These animals and our community Desperately need a new facility to care for these animals and ensure that they find new, happy homes. Here are just a few facts about our current facility:
* On any given day 250 to 300 animals occupy spaces designed to support 100.
* On average, 10 new animals are dropped off at the shelter every single day. Some are stuffed in cages, some tied to trees, and others are just left to roam freely on the premises.
* In May alone, the Humane Society placed 27 animals in new homes and euthanized nearly 200.
* At the current pace, the Natchez Humane Society will euthanize more than 2,000 dogs and cats THIS YEAR ALONE!
* It is very difficult, if not impossible, to recruit volunteers and employees to work at the facility because of its deplorable condition
