Central Nebraska Humane Society (CNHS) was established in 1967, we are an open entry shelter located in the northeast corner of Grand Island, Nebraska. We care for over 3,000 stray, unwanted, sick, or injured animals each year. The shelter is staffed by highly dedicated and trained employees. Volunteers assist in special care needs, promotional events and educational programs.
The Central Nebraska Humane Society is the only private, non-profit 501(c)3 Tax Exempt charitable home for unwanted pets in south central Nebraska. The Central Nebraska Humane Society is contracted by the city of Grand Island to provide animal control in the city, and also works with other cities in south-central Nebraska on a case-by-case basis.
The purpose of the Central Nebraska Humane Society is to provide shelter to lost and homeless animals, to educate the community about the humane care and treatment of all animals, to advocate animal welfare, and to further the bond between people and animals.
