S.AS.F. stands for many things. The initials stand for Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, but those letters represent much more. Without the Foundation, 225 cats and dogs would have been put in jeopardy as of January 1, 2010 when the Town of Southampton determined they no longer had a budget to operate the municipal shelter and would shut it down. The Foundation was created and the shelter was privatized after many months of negotiations with the town.
It is the sole responsibility of the Foundation to care for the animals. S.A.S. F. provides all of the necessary care of the many homeless animals: food, bedding, toys, inoculations, spaying and neutering, medications, micro-chip, leashes, collars and toys as well as the programs that enrich the lives of the animals.
We have a fully trained staff, including a veterinarian and two vet techs that are dedicated to providing the best care possible for the animals. We offer reduced fees for low income pet owners and FREE spay and neuter for all Pit Bulls.
Our Training and Behavior Department evaluates and assesses the needs of the dogs and develops specific training plans so that they can become devoted members of a new adoptive family. We also have a Special Needs Director who is a licensed therapist and has worked with shy dogs, a deaf dog and many other special dogs so that they can find loving homes.
