We are a non-profit 501(c)3 formed in 1984 to deal with stray and unwanted animals in a county with no animal shelter. We won a county referendum 3-1 to get a shelter. We raised funds through grants and donations to work with the county to build the shelter, which opened in 1994. We are contracted by the county to accept unwanted animals from our county residents. We are in the mountains of western NC in a rural county. We offer low-cost spay neuter for the public's pets. All our shelter dogs and cats are spay/neutered before going home. We also provide cruelty investigations, humane educations in our public and private schools. We rely on donations to be able to provide the extras for our shelter pets. We offer pet food for families with hardships such as sickness, unemployment. We are proud of our humane shelter. We offer a 24-hour emergency hot-line.
