Oregon Humane Society Salem

The Oregon Humane Society Salem (formerly Willamette Humane Society) was founded in 1965 by local civic leaders and serves Marion and Polk counties. Dedicated to promoting the welfare of animals through leadership, education and action, WHS exists to:

* provide a temporary shelter for discarded, abused, abandoned, and lost animals as an open-admission shelter,
* complete families by matching companion animals with people, and
* lead the community through education by teaching respect and compassion for animals.

Willamette Humane Society (WHS) merged into Oregon Humane Society (OHS) to create one organization, Oregon Humane Society, with two locations. This merger between the two largest animal welfare agencies in Oregon will position us to provide even higher levels of care and compassion to the animals in our care as well as those in our communities. The merger is effective July 1, 2022, and the integration of the two organizations will be an 18-24 month process.
