The Humane Society, Inc. (also known as The Oak Ridge Humane Society, or The Humane Society of Anderson County) was founded in 1972, and established as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in 1976, incorporated in the State of Tennessee.
As stated in our ByLaws, our purpose is to promote the humane care and responsible treatment of animals. To implement this purpose the objectives of the society are:
* To provide the spay/neuter program to low-income families by paying for their pet to be spayed or neutered for free
* To provide support to the City of Oak Ridge Animal Shelter
* To educate the community on the humane care and treatment of animals
* To promote animal welfare within the community through various programs
