Aquarium & Rainforest at Moody Gardens

When the world's newest rainforest opened in March of 1993 at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas, visitors had to use their imaginations to visualize how the acre-size rainforest would actually fill out its 10-story glass pyramid. Not so today! In just a few years, the Moody Gardens Rainforest Pyramid has formed a complete 55-foot tall canopy of tropical foliage, which blocks out much of the blazing Texas sun. The Pyramid has indeed become a verdant jungle full of Tarzan-type air-root vines, vibrant flowers and luscious fruit such as bananas and papaya. Indeed, the horticulture team led by Moody Gardens' nationally renowned Gary Outenreath has its hands full controlling the growth, which produces three truck-loads of trimmings every week of the summer.
